What does a New Year mean to you?

What does this New Year mean to you? (Image courtesy of Toni V, Zurich)

My answer is below, please post yours in reply.

I raise a glass to toast your New Year and what it may bring you. (Actually, I just enjoyed the photo and wanted to share it here. Thanks to Steve Jurvetson for allowing it.)

...

For me, this New Year means I have outlived my surgeon's estimate of my life expectancy. (Maybe like these guys, on New Year's Eve?)

I'm not sure I really know what to think about that fact.

Patiently Occupied?

So what is this "Patiently Occupied" blog about, anyway, you ask?

Well, even if you didn't ask, I'll tell you anyway. My main blog has been primarily about topics of interest to someone in my situation, whereas I felt I needed a place to be less objective, a place where I could discuss the feelings surrounding that situation. Not wanting to change the tone of that blog, I decided that I needed a separate place from the "formal" side of things.

If you've seen my profile here, you've undoubtably seen that my "occupation" is listed as "patient." That really has nothing to do with patience, though of course it's a characteristic that is sometimes required.

These days, my primary "job" is to be a colorectal cancer patient, and this is a blog where I can express the emotions that arise from that, and related posts as well of course. It is about the occupation of being a patient, and everything that accompanies it.
